Answer:
Depends on the branch. The Air Force decided that since they're doing a 100% ID check that the sticker was a waste of time and money and discontinued them. However the Army still requires them,and I'm not sure about the Navy and Marine Corps. But even so, the worst that can happen is that they make you go to the PMO and get a new sticker.
