Innovative Stocks And Handguards From VLTOR
VLTOR have a great history of innovation in the design and manufacture of weapons and accessories. Their AR15s are regarded as some of the best available. VLTOR have won a dedicated following within the US Army and Special Forces community. The M14 rifle may be old but its accuracy and hard hitting qualities have made it a weapon of choice in the Global War on Terror. However, the ergonomics of the M14 and its civilian M1A counterpart leave a lot to be desired. To bring the benefits of the M14 to the 21st century user it was necessary to make stocks that improved the ergonomics and increased the sighting and accessory mounting options available. The VLTOR M14 EMod stock provides a 'straight line' recoil path for reduced muzzle climb. VLTOR took the existing USGI fiberglass stock and added a cunningly machined extension on which they mount their EMod stock. The extension allows one inch of vertical movement to enable the stock to be set up for iron sights or optics. There are five length of pull settings. The stock can be topped with a CAS14 railed hand guard. Springfield adopted this stock for their SOCOM II carbine. Springfield renamed the CAS14 the Cluster rail.
The VLTOR EMod is a very clevery designed and popular carbine stock. Made of polymer, with an aluminum strike plate, the EMod has no less than three storage compartments. Two of these are detachable saddles that can each take two CR123 or three AA batteries. Two more AAs can be stored in the compartment under the front ot the stock. On the VLTOR M1A stock the 'buffer tube' offers another large storage compartment. There is a sling loop molded into the top of the stock and a receptacle for a push button swivel for a singlepoint ambidextrous sling. The Emod is a very comfortable stock that enables effective weapon control.
VLTOR's handguard system for the M4 differs in offering a monolithic rail. The VLTOR CASV-EL has a top rail that runs two thirds of the way along the reciever, enabling the BUIS rear sight to attach directly to the carbine's flat top so as [not to be mounted too high~to be the right height for the USGI front sight. Five bolt on sections of Picatinny rail are provided which can bolt on at any of five different angles. The CASV comes in at less than one pound in weight, making it an ideal addition to the light, handy M4 carbine. It is produced in matte black, black and foliage green and black and flat dark earth, to suit different operational environments.
