Greatest advance in handgun design and/or function?
What in your opinion is the greatest advance in technology for handguns? Double action, delayed roller blowback, locking breech, composites, double stack magazines, revolvers with more than 6 chambers, stronger steels being used, or lighter metals like scandium and titanium, or do you think the Colt SAA is the epitome of handgun perfection and everything that followed it is a futile effort to perfect perfection? (You can subsitute 1911's, or anything else for the Colt SAA if you want to).
Please limit your answers to handguns only. Unconventional handguns also qualify, ie, machine pistols, T/C Encore etc etc.
This is a "have fun with it" question.

I'm pretty old school, Butch, and John Moses Browning Model of 1911 .45 is the parent to just about everything that is self loading. Figuring out ergonomics that are still wonderful after 100 years, and simply whacking a .30-06 Springfield cartridge and stuffing a 230 grain ball in it was genius. So far as wheelguns, the original boys, Col. Colt, Mssrs. Smith and Wesson, set the bar, and truthfully there has been nothing radically knew since the Peacemaker and the double action trigger, both over 100 years old. I kinda laugh when I hear the anti gunners prattle on about "modern day firearms". Let's see, metallic cartridges in the 1850's or 1860's, the Peacemaker in what, 1860 something, and the double action trigger certainly before 1900. Modern day firearms my a$$. Geez, even smokeless powder was around before 1900.
EDIT: Will the nitwit placing all the thumbs down on answers please I.D. yourself? Seems to me there's quite a bit of thought going into these responses. I detest trolls who come out from under a rock and slink away in the dark.
