Hidden Treasure in Iowa - Six Areas to Search
You cannot locate hidden treasure if you don't know where to begin your search.
Sure, there are individuals who have by sheer luck happened upon a buried treasure, or a cache hidden in an old house. However, those instances don't happen often. If you are really serious about locating a treasure, then you need to do your research. In a moment you'll be reading about some areas that have been rumored to have buried treasures. These tips will be your first areas of research.
In addition, using a metal detector is a good idea. You don't need anything expensive with all of the bells and whistles either. You can purchase a reliable detector for between $300 and $400. Of course if your going to search inside old homes, you don't need a metal detector. This article explains where the treasures outdoors are waiting. To begin, here are six areas to search for lost treasures in Iowa.
Pilot Rock is located near U.S. 59 south of Cherokee. A large boulder from the glacier age is the site of an encampment used by the Sioux. Many pioneers traveled the old Indian paths on their way west. Artifacts or relics may be located here.
Burris City is located on the north shore of the Iowa River, at its junction with the Missouri River. This old town was a riverboat boom town. Many old buildings are still remaining. And like many riverboat towns it has been rumored to hold various buried treasures.
Galland is another ghost town located approximately three miles east of Montrose, and eleven miles north of Keokuk in Lee county. Galland was a river boat town abandoned in the late 1890's. There may be lost relics and lost personal belongings waiting to be discovered here.
Elk River Ruins is located near Almost on route 67. This area was used by outlaws in the mid 1800's. Supposedly, buried outlaw caches are in the area.
Council Bluffs is located near Weston on county route 91.
On a farm north of here, the outlaw Jessie James supposedly buried $35,000 in gold coins.
Shenandoah is located on the Nishnabotua River. A treasure of more than $75,000 in gold coins was buried in the area by a rich merchant.
It is important that you always ask for permission when entering private property. If you are going on to State or Federal Land, in search for lost treasure, be sure to check with your State laws about any digging.
Good luck in your search for hidden treasure.
