Motorcycle Half Helmets
Motorcycle half helmets, also sometimes referred to as "beanie" helmets or "shorty" helmets, are an attractive option for those motorcyclists who might otherwise be averse to wearing a helmet. Motorcycle half helmets are Department of Transportation certified road safe, and come in a wide array of stylish and comfortable styles.
By now, most (hopefully all) of us know that wearing a helmet while on a motorcycle, whether driving it or as a passenger, is absolutely essential. In many states it is now required. However, there are still many motorcyclists who resist buying and wearing a helmet for reasons such as comfort and style. The best solution to this is to buy a half helmet.
Motorcycle helmets come in three basic styles - full face, open face, and half helmet. The full face helmet covers the entire head from the jaw up. These offer the most protection to the wearer, but some riders find them too restrictive or even claustrophobic feeling. The open face helmet does not protect the face from the forehead down, but still covers the rest of the head including the sides of the face. Some riders dislike this style because they find it unattractive, or dislike the feeling of the helmet on the sides of their face.
For riders with these issues against full face helmets and open face helmets, a motorcycle half helmet is the best solution. By having leaving the face free, the motorcyclist can still enjoy the feeling of the wind on their face, full peripheral vision, and great style. Half helmets boast some of the best looking designs on the market, both in color design and shape of the helmet.
When choosing a motorcycle half helmet, there are a few key features to look for. When it comes to comfort, try to find a half helmet with plenty of padding. Padding is one of the essential factors when it comes to finding a helmet comfortable enough that you will be willing to wear it every time you ride. Also, make sure to test the chin strap. A chin strap that pinches or sits uncomfortably will greatly discourage the desire to wear the helmet. If the merchant will allow it, take the helmet out for a test ride. Many factors involved in the comfort of the helmet, such as how it feel once it is subjected to the force of the wind, or whether it will start to make you hot with extended wear, may only become apparent with real use.
Comfort is a very important factor when looking for the best motorcycle half helmets, but don't overlook style. If you find the helmet ugly or embarrassing to wear, you will never wear it. This goes for the guys as much as the ladies. There are a lot of half helmets to choose from, and even a brief search is likely to turn up a helmet you will feel good about wearing.
Remember that the most important part of motorcycling is safety, both yours and your passenger's. Both passenger and driver need to wear a helmet every time, and now with DOT certification, motorcycle half helmets can help bring even the cyclists most stubbornly against wearing a helmet when they ride around to wearing one.

Frequently Asked Questions...
Is there a pattern for making bicycle helmet cover?
Additional Details
Hi again, I realized I did not phrase my question correctly.
Actually what I need is a COVER for the helmet, which is an older type made out of sort of a hard styrofoam material.
The cover is quite worn out but still usable. In worst case I will have to cut it apart to get the pattern ![]()

Answer:
Time to buy a new helmet. Covers prevent you from keeping cool and can get caught during an accident. Doesn't sound like you are using a cycling helmet.
